Steven H. Krein is Managing Partner of Transformation Ventures, a New York
City based investment firm with a unique approach to finding, developing and
investing in talented entrepreneurs who want to build great companies of
lasting value. Our Smart Entrepreneur Fund I provides early-stage bridge
financing and follow-on equity investments to promising businesses that
enjoy high margins and have significant potential for sustainable,
profitable growth in sectors of the economy poised for growth.
Prior to founding Transformation Ventures, Steve was Chairman and CEO of
Promotions .com (formerly Nasdaq: PRMO), a global promotion and direct
marketing technology and services company that was sold to iVillage Inc.
(Nasdaq: IVIL) in 2002. Chakkalina, the Company's Japanese subsidiary, was
acquired in 2001 and is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of iTX Corporation.
After co-founding the company with a childhood friend in 1996 and under
Steven's tenure, Promotions.com reached more than $26 million in sales and
was awarded to Deloitte & Touche's prestigious "Technology Fast 50", ranking
it as the 23rd fastest growing technology company in New York City.
Promotions.com received approximately $100 million of private and public
financing from both an IPO led by Bear Stearns, Thomas Weisel Partners, ING
Barings and Wit Capital and from private and strategic blue-chips investors
including Stone Capital, Citigroup Investments, Allen & Company, XL
Ventures, Invesco Private Capital, Weiss Peck & Greer, Primus Ventures,
Chattergee Partners, Prospect Street Ventures, Catterton Partners and NBC.
Steven has more than a decade of experience as an entrepreneur, speaker,
consultant, strategic planner & coach and has hands on marketing, sales,
financial, legal & operational experience with start-ups, late stage and
public companies. Steven is a frequent speaker at ventures capital
conferences and has been featured on NBC's The Today Show, CNN/fn, the Fox
New Channel, CNBC's Power Lunch and Marketwatch and Bloomberg News. Steven
received his bachelor's degree from University of Maryland at College Park
and his law degree from Widener University School of Law; he completed his
final year of law school at The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Steven
is also a Member of YPO, the Young President's Organization .
