China is the new emerging economic giant, but the business rules are constantly changing. External factors are also shifting quickly, and the competition is intensifying. Entering China requires not only good opportunities, but knowledge, experience and flexibility. Pat will focus on the practical issues faced by venture portfolio managers, entrepreneurs and private equity investors when doing business in China. In addition, he will discuss how to obtain Chinese-backed funding for technology development and take advantage of China’s accelerated trend toward privatization. Conference guests will also learn about the essential elements in structuring distribution, technology and manufacturing joint-ventures.
Biographical Profile
Patrick Custer is the Chairman of Venture Pacific Group as well as the Senior Partner of China Access Partners. VPG is a specialty advisory company focused on cross pacific investments between the US and China. China Access Partners is a China advisory service with primary participation in organizations such as China Access 2008 which is the advisory for Beijing leading up to the Olympics in 2008. He has served on several committees in China since his first trip 25 years ago, including the first Chinese Economic Development Council which was established to help format the ground work in privatizing government controlled companies (SOEs). This base of input from the council was later used in the establishment of the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges. Additionally, he served on the China Telecommunication and Computer Standardization Panel. He is currently the Chief Technical Advisor and a board member for the Pacific Rim Forum, which has been the premier venue for world business leaders as well as governmental leaders to meet and exchange experiences. Patrick has been the Chairman and CEO of several companies in the U.S. such as Curtis Mathes Corporation, The Donny Osmond Entertainment Corporation, and uniView Technologies. He has held additional Board of Director positions at Texas American Bank, Hamilton-Vanguard, Jefferson Bank and Trust and others as well as positions with Texas Instruments, Honeywell and EF Hutton.
